A SMART ROOM FOR THE FUTURE OF MANUFACTURING

Factory of the Future

GlaxoSmithKline built a proof of concept showing what was possible in manufacturing to accelerate internal technology adoption, streamline manufacturing, and increase quality with a goal of zero defects for consumers.

We worked with Stimulant and GSK to create a true smart space where the room itself is automated, monitors the status, and notifies the occupants. Visually, we worked to turn large data systems into functional and meaningful information across multiple screens in the production environment.

“We wanted to build a facility we can point to and show the art of the possible.” — Patrick Hyett, GSK.

RETHINK EVERYTHING

The manufacturing challenges of an antiquated, paper-based industry requires a whole new workflow that aligns people, technology, and data. The smart room approach minimized friction in the manufacturing process and gave a thorough analysis of every step.

Information was pared down to the current task and provided real-time monitoring. Multiple screens were assigned specific tasks in the room. Operators could approach one set of screens to receive more detailed information based on their proximity to the screen. Other screens utilized touch controls for collaboration, troubleshooting, and RFID identification to make changes to the system.
